After many years of fighting for independence from the 470 years of Portuguese colonial domination over the country 16 year period of civil war was followed, provoking the most terrible devastation in the country, especially in the countryside, bringing despair in people's hearts, hunger, diseases and death. In 1993 a final peace agreement was signed between the two political rival parties, Frelimo and Renamo, which brought peace to the nation. In the last years of the nineties the economical and political situation have been improved bringing very good prospects for a brighter future. However, the floods in the beginning of 2000 have set back the country five years in its development.
TRAINING CENTER
At the moment there are 26 Living Bread Churches in four different provinces. They are in the most remote areas of the country, where access to those places sometimes is only possible by foot. Their pastors have no theological training. The Training Programme will be set up in accordance with the educational level of these pastors.  To implement this program we are running four two-week seminars throughout the year to achieve this goal.
PARTICULAR NEED: To build a training Center in Caia (Sofala Province).
LIFELINE CLINIC
Sixteen years of civil war in Mozambique has left the country as one of the poorest countries in the world (UN Report) with a barely functioning health care infrastructure. For some years now, Mozambique has had one of the highest infant mortality rates. In the last years, 2 out of 10 children die before 5 years of age. 135 out of 1.000 die before 1 year. The possibility of children dying before they reach 1 month of age is about 54 per thousand.
About 70% of the existing health posts and clinics in the country were destroyed and millions of people were dislocated and unable to plant crops. The terrible combination of war and collapse of the agricultural industry heavily affected a people already weary from years of displacement from their homes and farms. Half of Mozambique's population is under 15 years of age and 4% of the children are less than one year old. The goal is to meet the serious health requirements such as maternal and infant health.
